{#4} Questioning the veracity of Lord Monckton’s attributions

{This is the fourth email to Lord Monckton examining his 10/14/9 MFMI presentation}
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Considering that Lord Monckton’s PowerPoint presentation offered the best venue for clear citations or reference to the many quotes the Lord tosses out. I thought it would be interesting to look at the side notes with his slides and see if LM offered any information that would help in tracking down the veracity of his various quotations.
From his 10/14/9 PowerPoint presentation: http://www.docstoc.com/docs/13460116/
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

#9 Oliver Letwin, Tory policy chief
“We cannot question what the scientists say.”
We have only LM’s word on his anecdotal meeting with OL and subsequent comment.

#22 Sir John Houghton
“Unless we announce disasters, no one will listen.”
“in a book he wrote...” is all LM gives us here. Why not a book name and page number? {also see JA#6}

#23 Stephen Schneider
“We have to offer up scary scenarios..."
No hint at all where this came from.

#28 Al Gore
“610 cm rise - 100x error”
LM: “Gore says melting is imminent.” For as many times as LM has repeated “imminent” he has never given the actual quote, or even the time signature where one could find it. Again he expects us to take his word for it.

#29 British court action
“The Armageddon scenario that he depicts is not based on any scientific view.”
No citation or any information given on this quote.

#39 Lord Monckton:
“I’m still waitin’, Al baby!”
"I challenged Al Gore to debate. However, he has not dared debate on “global warming.”"
- though here LM does talk about some court trial in UK. But, gives no names or dates. Again expecting us to accept his word - that’s called an “Appeal to Authority” something LM has ridiculed himself.

Incidentally, I'm waiting for Lord Monckton to reply my 8-20-10 email.

#41 “A major person working in the area of climate change and global warming sent me an astonishing email that said, “We have to get rid of the Medieval Warm Period.” David Deming, 2005"
This is another anecdotal story about “a” scientist, related to LM by DD, no proof offered, but we are supposed to take LM’s word for it.

#108 Syun-Ichi Akasofu
“No super-computer, however powerful, is able to prove definitively a simplistic hypothesis that says the greenhouse effect is responsible for warming"
Again many rhetorical words, but no citation given. No offer made to allow the public to read the full context of the above statement. Just LM’s spin to accept.

#150 Professor Antonino Zichichi
“It is not possible to exclude the possibility that the observed phenomena may have natural cause. It may be that man has little or nothing to do with it.”
Again many rhetorical words, but no citation given. No offer made to allow the public to read the full context of the above statement. Just LM’s spin to accept.

#153 “Paloski...”
“... they first make mad:"
There’s not even a note next to this one - So, was simple political slander the intent here?

#154 Henry Waxman
“We’re seeing the reality of a lot of the North Pole starting to evaporate..."
They have lanes now where ships can go that couldn’t ever sail through before. ...There’s a lot of tundra that’s being held down by that ice cap.
Another rhetorical diatribe, claiming Waxman wants to shut down 5/6th of the economy. As for the quote no reference to its origin is offered.

#155 John Holdren
“The effects of new ice age on agriculture and the supportability of large human populations scarcely need elaboration here. ... A sudden outward slumping in the Antarctic ice cap, induce by added weight, could generate a tidal wave of proportions unprecedented in recorded history.”
Again LM’s typical diatribe, however with an interesting last sentence: “Mr.Holdren is not a Fascist,” another example of pure political theater with no interest in actually learning anything. And no citation or reference to that origin of that quote is given.

#157 James Hansen
“Sea level will rise by 75 meters”
Again no reference to the origin of the quote, or its context is offered.

#158 Schwarzenegger
“The debate is over. The science is certain. Now we must act.”
Again no reference offered.

#159 “liberals traffic light tendency...green because to yellow to be red.”

#160 “Obama as a communist”

#166 Professor Chu next to steam train.
“Painting the world white as solution.”
“Wacko geoengineering solutions...” No citations given to look up what Chu actually said or the context in which he said it. We are again expected to accept LM’s spin on the matter.
